“Greetings! I trust your May is off to a good start. Unless you’ve been completely cut off from media access, you probably know that 2008 is an election year in Ghana our motherland, & that Ghanaians will go to the polls on Sunday, December 7th.

“As citizens of a democracy, we have the ability to make our voices heard and, as a result, vastly affect the outcome of this election. I urge you to keep informed about the important issues in your part of the country, and then vote your conscience…!

As a preacher of the Gospel, I cannot tell you directly who to vote for or the political party to support but I can show you from the scriptures how you should vote.I’m not going to talk politics…so don’t leave! Just please keep on reading. In fact, it is my duty to do so because I am to preach and teach the whole counsel of God. Government is one of the three institutions ordained by Almighty the others being the family and the church.

Folks, I have a question for you. Do you feel that Christians really shouldn’t say anything at all about the direction in which our country is going, or have any voice in the kind of leadership our country may choose?

But what I am going to do is remind you that Christian’s had better be informed and involved in the political process for it effects you….your family…this nation Ghana! Scripture has much to say about our involvement in Politics: “Politics” ~ The affairs of government…politicians….& political parties. My friends, the people of God must be informed and involved in our government….and in the process of electing those who govern us!

Today, I want to give some things to consider as you get informed and involved in the up coming December 2008 Elections in Ghana that is just months away!

I. REMEMBER GOD ’S SOVEREIGNTY AND YOU HAVE BEEN GIVEN RIGHT TO VOTE .

A. First of all, we must realize that God is sovereign over government. The apostle Paul wrote, “Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except…” Except what? “…except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.” (Romans 13:1)

And as Christians, we are to be in submission to the governing authorities even though we may not always agree with them. And again, must realized that we have been given the Right to vote.Psalm 33:12,reads – Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD , the people he chose for his inheritance.

This is a democracy! You have a voice…You have a vote! Use It!-You’re a Ghanaian! -Born in the land of the brave and home of the free! -Thousands before us have bled and die for the rights and freedoms we enjoy! As I write young men and women are in harms way in Iraq and Afghanistan and some countries in Africa we are all aware .

As a citizen of this great nation Ghana and as a child of God you have the responsibility to get involved! Your involvement in the political process…Makes a difference!...It has an impact!...Brings about change that is Godly and good!

There’re plenty of examples in scripture where God’s people got involved in politics! For example, In Genesis 41:39-41, Pharaoh gave Joseph political control of all Egypt. In Exodus 5:2-4 Moses went before Pharaoh as God’s ambassador asking for the freedom of God’s people. In Ether 1, Esther the queen saved the whole Jewish nation from execution. And of course there was Jesus who was one for the most divisive figure in history religiously….socially…and politically!

Secondly, As Ghanaians and as Christians we have a responsibility to vote and as well as a responsibility to pray and support our leaders. In Jeremiah 29:4-7, The nation of Israel in captivity and bondage! The LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, sends this message to all the captives he has exiled to Babylon from Jerusalem:

“Build homes, and plan to stay. Plant gardens, and eat the food you produce. Marry, and have children. Then find spouses for them, and have many grandchildren. Multiply! Do not dwindle away! And work for the peace and prosperity of Babylon. Pray to the LORD for that city where you are held captive, for if Babylon has peace, so will you.”

We must learn to PRAY FOR OUR LEADERS , In 1 Timothy 2:1-4 the apostle Paul said, “I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone – for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all men to be saved…”

Our President needs our prayers. Our Ministers needs our prayers. Our Parlimentarians needs our prayers. Our leaders and all their support staff, the legislators, and all in authority over us need our prayers.

In our seeking of God’s face to heal our land, we need to lift up our leaders in our daily prayers, asking God to give them wisdom and discernment in making their decisions.

And as we pray for them, we need to pray that God will touch the hearts of those aspiring Presidential Candidates and members of Parliamentry candidates who don’t know Him, and strengthen those who do in this up-coming elections. Pray for their souls and for their families. Lift them up before God. Pray for them, and ask God blessings upon them.

And then finanly, When all is said and done if your man or the Political Party you support does not win you have the responsibility to pray and support that in-coming man for as he goes… so goes the nation…&.... so goes you and your family. ...
